Our Lenten theme will be The Marks of a Christian. One of the marks of a Christian is the calluses on our knees. But that takes time. In the hectic pace, complicated by March Madness and wrestling tournaments, we are invited to spend time in prayer. As the old adage goes, “Practice makes perfect.”  Be creative. In more quiet moments of your day, pray. Pray between events and while waiting. Carry on a “running conversation” with God throughout the day. The Season of Lent could well become the best time of your life.

Wednesday, February 17, is Ash Wednesday. Our theme this year will be “Marks of a Christian”.

The midweek services begin with morning worship at 10 A.M., followed by coffee time. A lenten supper is held at 5:45 P.M.; services begin at 6:45 P.M. Beginning February 24, the evening services will use the Holden Evening Prayer Service.

Celebration of the Passover

We invite you to commemorate Holy Week with a series of worship services and events themed Marks of a Christian.

Christ in the Passover will be our first event during Holy Week at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 31. A chicken dinner and  Passover Meal that explains Passover’s significance from the first Passover in Egypt to Jesus’ redemptive acts and Christian communion celebrations. Speaker is Yarden Nasser from Tel Aviv, a member of Jews for Jesus. A free will offering will be received toward the dinner, which Evelyn Aubrey is preparing. For reservations, sign up in the narthex or call
the church office.

The Lord's Supper / "Is it I, Lord?"

Maundy Thursday worship services, themed Marked as a Servant, begin at 10 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., Thursday, April 1. As part of the 6:45 service, the congregation will present “Is It I, Lord?,” a dramatization of the Last Supper. The reenactment is reminiscent of daVinci’s painting “The Last Supper.” Disciples speak their minds after hearing Jesus announce, “One of you will betray me.” The drama has been produced in thousands of churches since Ernest Emurian, a Methodist minister from Virginia, wrote it 50  years ago.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, April 2, the 10 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. worship services focus on the theme Marked by Sorrow. Each service ends with a thought-provoking piece by Emily Harkins, Darlene Peatrowsky, and Dale Santoiemma.

In the sanctuary that evening at 7:45 p.m. is a showing of the 2004 Mel Gibson film “The Passion of the Christ,” based on New Testament accounts of Jesus’s arrest, trial, torture, crucifixion, and resurrection. The film is rated R (graphic violence). To request free childcare, call the church office.

We will observe a prayer vigil, Marked by Waiting, in the sanctuary from Friday night through Sunday morning.

He is Risen!

Easter Sunday begins with a Sonrise Service at 6 a.m., April 4. That is followed by an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast serving pancakes, sausage, and egg bake from 7 to 10:30 a.m. The breakfast benefits the congregation’s trip to build a church in Tanzania. Tickets are available ahead of time or at the door: $4 for adults, $3 for ages 4-10 years. Resurrection Services take place at 8 and 10:30 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. is a puppet show by Dale Santoiemma and Resurrection Egg Hunt for toddlers through 4th Grade.

Plan now to reflect and consider how your life is marked by the cross of Jesus Christ.

Has God blessed you with the ability to carry a tune? If so, use your gift to His glory by singing in the Chancel Choir!

Redeemer’s adult choir rehearses every Wednesday evening from 7 until 8 p.m. in the sanctuary. Anthems are prepared which are relevant to the themes and lessons of the Sundays on which we sing for worship; AND, a good time is had by all!

New volunteers are enthusiastically welcomed – after all, we can’t have a choir without singers! You don’t have to make a huge commitment; just come to one rehearsal and give it a try.  We think you’ll be back for more!

Come check us out – you’ll be glad you did!
