Summer Worship Schedule

Redeemer’s Summer Worship Schedule will begin the first weekend of June.
Saturday evening worship will continue at 5:30pm.
Sunday Morning worship will be at both 8:00am (traditional) and 9:30am* (contemporary)
with fellowship from 9:00-9:30am in the Library Lounge.

*There will not be a 9:30am Contemporary Worship Service Sunday, June 2.Pastors Lissa and Dan encourage you to attend worship at 10am at Wartburg College with the "Borning Cry Celebration."

Help to Recycle!

Redeemer members set a new record for the number of volunteers (16) helping at the Recycling Center in April!  Thanks to Doug, William, Cole, and Jayden                   Lammers, Stanley Haugen, Judy Johnston, Brian Ramker and his group of                  volunteers (Adam Ramker, Jordan Gayer, Ryan Willis, Sam Goeke, Jack Seward), Roy and Mary Ventullo, Steve and Elaine Main. Sign up for your chance to help Waverly Recycle either Oct. 5 or Dec. 7 using the sheet on the M&O bulletin board. THANK YOU! - M&O Committee

SOON Box

Spring has sprung and so have the donations to the Waverly Food Pantry through the SOON box!  Thank you for all of your generous donations last month.  During May we will be collecting spaghetti, elbow macaroni, pasta, meat sauce, ravioli, peanut butter, boxed potatoes, pancake mix, syrup, oatmeal, dish soap, bar soap, and/or any other non-perishable item you would like to donate.  Bring a smile to our neighbors in need, support the SOON project.  Thank You! - Mission and Outreach Committee
*SOON delivery driver for May will be Stanley Haugen.

Care & Repair

Redeemer’s Care and Repair volunteers met on Saturday, January 12 to organize for the coming year.  10 volunteers participated in the meeting.  Mike Aubrey and Paul Pines were elected as captains.  Dave Ghormley will assist them as coordinator, helping to match volunteers to projects. The captains are now ready to begin accepting project requests.

Care and Repair is intended to help Redeemer members with simple but essential home repair and maintenance tasks they are unable to do themselves.  Potential projects would include minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs and yard maintenance. Generally, projects would be one-time or short-term in nature.  For example, lawn mowing for a few weeks while a member is recuperating from illness or injury would be a possible project.  However, a member regularly requiring season-long lawn care probably needs to hire a lawn maintenance service.  Care and Repair will not engage in any project requiring a building permit.  Snow removal is not on the acceptable project list.

Any member can request assistance by filling out and signing a Project Record form available from either of the captains or at the church office.  A family member or other  Redeemer member can initiate a Project Record form on behalf of a member needing       assistance.  However the member owning the property will have to sign the form.  One of the captains will evaluate the project and decide whether or not it will be accepted taking into consideration complexity and safety as well as availability of volunteers with appropriate skill levels.  (The captains will maintain referral lists of Redeemer members who are professional contractors and service providers for who may be able to provide assistance for projects which are not appropriate for volunteers.)

The Care and Repair volunteers want Redeemer members to know:

  • We are looking for more volunteers and we would welcome and encourage women to volunteer (a volunteer needs to be age 18 or older).
  • Any Redeemer member can request assistance; our services are not limited to older  members.
  • We will not accept payment for our work (although we would expect members to pay for materials needed for a project).  We would encourage members we assist to “pay it forward” by using their time and talents to help someone else.  If a member receiving assistance wants to make a cash gift we would suggest a contribution to Redeemer designated for Habitat for Humanity.
  • It is OK to offer coffee, etc. to volunteers (normally we will work in teams).  However, members should be aware that coffee can induce talkativeness on the part of some volunteers.
  • We offer our services in Jesus’ name and to His glory.

Get Involved with Missions!

Mission & Outreach Committee is revved up for a busy and meaningful year. We hope you'll consider getting involved, too!

Here are just some of the projects we spearhead or support:
  • Bartels (chaplaincy, wheelchair helpers)
  • Hunger relief (Bread for the World, CROP Walk, Feed My Starving Children, Waverly Food Bank, NE Iowa Food Bank, Souper Bowl, World Hunger)
  • Bible camperships (EWALU and others)
  • Missionary support (worldwide missions, NE Iowa and ELCA, plus service trips such as those to Appalachia, Haiti, Africa, etc.)
  • Good Gifts (animal program)
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Cedar Valley Friends of the Family
  • MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)
  • Campus Ministries (IA Lutheran and Wartburg College)
  • LSI (Lutheran Social Services like Bremwood)
  • Lutheran World Relief (malaria project, ELCA well project, quilts)
  • Cedar Valley Hospice
  • ELCA Disaster Relief (for recent catastrophes like Hurricane Sandy)
  • Self-Help
  • Fair trade
  • Giving Tree
  • Recycling center volunteers

New missions to be explored and expanded include: Care & Repair, Saints Café (meals prepared and served to those in need by area churches on Monday nights at St. Paul’s Lutheran), and Global Health Ministries. Then there are the things we can all do each day, such as performing random acts of kindness, mentoring, or volunteering at local or area facilities like our school or Salvation Army.

Do you see a mission that warms your heart and stirs up some passion? Join our committee or  let us know where you’d like to get involved. There’s a place for you!
- Mission & Outreach Committee
