WELCOME to Pastor Lissa & Pastor Dan Kahl!
Redeemer is happy to welcome Pastor Lissa and Pastor Dan Kahl, as well as their children, Isaiah and Jordan Kahl.
Lissa grew up on a farm near Aurelia, IA. The youngest of 4 daughters. Parents: farmers, raised cattle. Liked animals, riding horses and swimming. Walked beans. Rode beans. Played basketball, volleyball, band, jazz band, choir and swing choir. Worked at Lutheran Lakeside Camp, Spirit Lake, IA, and Klein Ranch, Isabel, SD. Active in campus ministry. Graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, with a biology degree. Played trombone in concert band, jazz band and brass choir in college. Ministered in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya for 5 months with Youth Encounter team, Crossfire, with the rest of the year ministering on the East Coast of the US. Worked as a physical therapy aide one year. Spent semester abroad in Zimbabwe while at Luther Seminary. Married Dan in 2000. Ordained in 2000. Served as youth pastor for Trinity in Albert Lea, 3 years. Trained in Interim Ministry. Served as interim pastor for several congregations of all sizes since having children, Isaiah & Jordan. “Spirations” graduate under Redeemer’s own Trish Bruxvoort-Colligan. Likes chocolate, spicy food, liver, reading and scuba diving. Friendly, funny, but a bit impatient at times. Good ping-pong player, ok racquetball player. Favorite movie: Man From Snowy River & Lord of the Rings.
Dan – grew up in White Bear Lake, MN. Third of 5 children, 3 sisters, 1 brother. Dad (died in 2006): chemistry teacher; Mom: piano teacher, choir director. Likes dogs, playing ball and in their pond. Played tennis, basketball and trombone, string bass & guitar, sang in choir, sang in 4-H Arts-In at MN State Fair. Attended Luther College. Active in campus ministry. Sang in Nordic Choir. Graduated with a religion degree, minoring in music. Worked at Island View Lodge, Brainerd, MN; Green Lake Bible Camp, Spicer, MN; & Okoboji Bible Camp, Okoboji, IA. Played bass and sang in Christian rock band “Sojourn” for 6 years. Graduated from Luther Seminary and ordained in 1996. Served as youth pastor for 16 years at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Austin, MN. Married Lissa. Daddy to Isaiah and Jordan. Acted in several musicals, including Godspell, Joseph, My Fair Lady. Sang in men’s quartet “Forte”, based in Austin, MN. Likes chocolate, pecan pie (his dad’s recipe), hiking and kayaking. Does not like liver. Friendly, funny, but forgetful, at times. Good racquetball player, ok ping-pong player. Favorite movie: Princess Bride & Lord of the Rings.
Both Isaiah and Jordan: Love to play games of any kind, read, swim & bike. Love to learn about dinosaurs, ocean creatures, spiders, bugs and animals. Have an amazing memory. Silly – love to laugh. Well-behaved and kind. Love to pet and play with kitty. Favorite Disney ride: Kali River Rapids. Favorite movie: Despicable Me. Favorite part of moving to Waverly: having their own room.
Isaiah – 7 years old. 2nd grade. Has dribbled a ball since 18 months old. Had Dinosaur A-Z book memorized at age 2. Amazing ping-pong player. Loves to skateboard. Learning to snowboard. Plays piano. Sings in choir. Likes to tell stories and jokes. Eats anything but sweet potatoes, squash or liver. Gets along great with sister, especially because she let him draw all over her face with a pen.
Jordan – 5 years old. Kindergarten. Reading since age 3. Loves to play dolls and draw. Taught herself to play her brother’s piano solo before she even began taking piano lessons. Takes piano lessons now and plays piano. Loves to sing. Especially loves to eat shrimp, oysters and clams, but not liver or spicy food. Gets along great with brother, even though he pretended to steal her nose, ears and head once and had to demand he give them back.
