Lenten Message from Pr. Lissa Kahl
It's deeply meaningful to me when the seasons of the church year so closely match what's going on in my life. As Dan and I went through the call process with you, Christmas themes of birth and new life resonated at every step. Many of those emotional, spiritual, relational (and even sometimes physical) transitions that take place for new parents were going on in our lives as we began to realize one phase of our life was over and a new one being birthed.
Then along came Epiphany with its themes of revealing and making known and being called to ministry - which also resonated deeply for us. Our installation falls on the Sunday with the healing of Naaman who balked at being told to do something so simple for his healing - wash in the cruddy little Jordan river - that leaves us pondering what that could mean. The very next Sunday is the highpoint of Epiphany - the grandiose story of Jesus on the mountain being transfigured before Peter, James and John. Just as the disciples longed to stay up on that mountain, so perhaps we will, too, with all the excitement of newness of getting to know each other and delving into a future of new possibilities.
So it seems a little strange to be thinking about Lent, on one hand, with it's darker themes of sin and repentance. Yet, on the other hand, Lent was a time of instruction for new converts into the faith that ended with a big celebration of baptism and new life. So perhaps it is appropriate that we not linger on the mountaintop too long, that we come down together and take this time to deepen and grow in our faith, that we might be truly prepared to go where God is calling us to go and to trust in the new life that awaits.

SOUPer BOWL SUNDAY Results!
SOUPER BOWL PROJECT RAISES $309.24!
Redeemer's Souper Bowl fund-raiser on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5, raised a total of $309.24. Giant fans contributed $35.83 and Patriot fans pitched in $51.70. The "Don't Care" voters were dominant with a total of $221.71. All funds contributed at Redeemer were given to the Waverly Food Pantry. Nationally the 2012 Souper Bowl campaign raised $6.545 million to battle hunger. Regardless of what you thought about the game you almost have to agree that the commercial about the dog who started a weight training program so he could get out the door and chase Volkswagens was good for a laugh.
