The congregation at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa, held a donkey walk during its Palm Sunday service Sunday, April 1, 2012, to re-enact Jesus' entry into Jerusalem following His raising of Lazarus from the dead.
The Rev. Lissa Kahl led the congregants in a call-and-answer hymn outside prior to the walk, and then the youth music group CrossFire sang "Hosanna" by Brooke Fraser at the start of the contemporary service inside the sanctuary. Following the gospel reading, Dale Santoiemma led "Bonnie," the donkey owned by Ron and Jean Shaw, through the sanctuary.
