Spiritual gifts are those talents God has given us that give us satisfaction and add meaning to our lives when we use them in God's service. When people discover what God has gifted them to do and that doing it gives them immense satisfaction, they begin to understand that working together in community is ministry and not obligation. Like other presents, it is impossible to fully appreciate and make use of spiritual gifts until they have been opened. Congregations who help members and guests to discover their gifts are empowering lay ministry and creating a caring climate that is very inviting.

All Christians are to work together, supporting one another. However, our gifts make us better prepared and equipped to perform in some areas of ministry over others. A person who is working within a ministry area in which they are gifted will be more effective in that ministry than one in which they are not. God has brought each of us to Redeemer to use our spiritual gifts for service for Him. If you recognize that you have a spiritual gift, you will be very successful in using it; it will be recognized by others; and you will not be able to get enough of it.

We at Redeemer are beginning a new effort to discover each of our spiritual gifts. Our basic process will be to complete a spiritual gift inventory. The questions in this inventory help identify things we feel strongly about and others that seem much less interesting to us as individuals. The answer sheet tallies the items by category. High resulting scores in areas indicate our spiritual gifts.

These spiritual gift inventories are always available and can be taken as a group or on an individual basis. There will be an adult forum on September 21 that will provide an explanation and an opportunity to assess your gifts. Printed copies of the Spiritual Gift Inventory are available in the Narthex, or if you'd like to take it online you may do so here, or you may print a copy from the web here. If you take the inventory online, please print the results, save the printout, and bring it to church.. The inventory will also be included as part of New Member classes. Small groups within the church are encouraged to include this activity in their ministry.

To determine your own spiritual gifts, complete the Spiritual Gift Inventory and score it as directed. Sheets for scoring your inventory are available in the narthex and also here on Redeemer's website. This information can help you focus the service you offer to Redeemer. As we discover and offer our spiritual gifts, we will think of our "work" at the church as a satisfying ministry, not a dreaded obligation. We can focus our efforts on what we like to do and what we are good at and allow others to do the same. Please bring your score sheet to church.

Our "Time and Talent" surveys this year will be organized by spiritual gift. You are challenged to complete your Spiritual Gift Inventory before our October Time and Talent due date. Open your spiritual gifts!
